Competing against students representing 45 schools in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, South El Monte High School's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students placed ninth at the Gold Coast Section Leadership Conference held recently at West Ranch High School.  FBLA is an organization that focuses on promoting business skills and student leadership through various projects and competitions.

Along with over 1,100 of their peers, South El Monte High School students went to individual and team competitions dealing with subjects ranging from word processing to public speaking, global business to accounting, entrepreneurship to parliamentary procedures and technology concepts to business communications.  Students also attended leadership training workshops.

In the afternoon, students had a chance to unwind at Magic Mountain as they waited for the awards ceremony later that evening in the park's Golden Bear theatre.

"The students had a chance to release their energy at Magic Mountain as they anxiously waited to hear their names announced," said instructor Tam Wong.

Congratulations to the following students who earned top ten honors in their respective events: Jose Magana, Alex Chen, Janny Ho, Vera Chan, Emily Ng, Judy Le, Linda Tan, Meng Lin, Katy Sue, Gil Romero, Yuanyi Liang, Kimberly Posas Bonilla, Andrew Nguyen, Danielle Hernandez, Andres Maya, Llesenia Flores, and Andrea De La Torre.

"All our members worked hard to achieve their objectives," said Wong.  "Each member represented South El Monte High School proudly."

"We at South El Monte High School thank our FBLA students for their hard work and dedication," added principal Edward Zuniga.  "Congratulations to each and every one of them."
